Melt
Additives
Goulston Technologies, Inc. continues its innovative approach to
fiber and fabric surface modification by developing polymer (melt)
additives that provide unique properties for today’s demanding
and sophisticated synthetic fibers and non-wovens markets. These
new additives provide specific functionalities that include alcohol
repellency, water repellency, hydrophilicity and soft hand. The
customer will find that these products are easy to use and give
excellence performance.
Polypropylene Hydrophobic and AR
HydRepel™ is a new series of hydrophobic additives that repel
fluids with maximum efficiency. The alcohol repellent version gives
high AR ratings allowing it to be used in sterile, hospital and
white room venues. Other additives are available where water repellency
is needed either to resist absorption into or penetration through
the substrate. All of the hydrophobic additives can be custom compounded
into the required MFI polypropylene resin.
Polypropylene Hydrophilic
Goulston has developed a hydrophilic additive with excellent moisture
management properties that can be used in hygienic or non-hygienic
applications. Durability teamed with very good absorbency allows
this product to be used in all types of non-woven consumer products.
Interestingly, the additive lowers the bending modulus of polypropylene
which in a spun bond product imparts softness of hand or drape.
Polyropylene Softhand
Goulston’s soft hand additives provide a silk-like hand that
provides extreme comfort for direct skin contact. When used in any
hygienic and non-hygienic non-woven applications they provide silky
softness and drape-ability. These additives can be used in filament
applications to provide softness and drape-ability characteristics
that had previously been possible only with micro deniers.
